I've heard of a solo acoustic gig with just Jerry on stage. Is this for real, and if so where can i download. Also if it is real what do you think of it?

They played this show on KBOO.fm the other day for their Grateful Dead and Friends show. The exact play date was 1.09.10 on KBOO.fm. They put a link to the show in their playlist for that day. I can't figure out how to download it, but you can definitely listen to it there. The recording is fabulous and the show is great!! The KBOO website is www.kboo.fm

I'm unclear what the concensus is on this. One solo, two solo, four solo, no solo? I do know that Oregon State Penitentiary performance well (he encores with Rubin & Cherise, unsure that he'll be able to remeber all the words, but he does just fine, thank you very much), but am unfamiliar with other dates mentioned in this thread.

Jerry played solo only one night, 4/10/82, but played two shows. After that one night, Kahn joined him for the rest of the tour. Garcia/Kahn did another string of shows in 11/84 and some shows in '85/'86. But none were better then the '82 shows. Besides 5/5, 6/4 and 8/23 are both very good.

Actually the only time he performed solo was 4/10/82..two shows. 5/5/82 was with John Kahn. Supposedly he didn't like being on stage after that one show so he brought Kahn in for the rest of the tour. There are also several other less circulated dates from the Garcia/Kahn that are fantastic. I think it was 6/24/82 and 8/23/82 which are both gems. But get 4/10, especially if you are a guitar player.

TheG&K, there is only one Jerry solo performance I know of that isn't before the Dead formed. He performed an early and late show at the Capital Theater in NJ on 4-10-1982 in between two Dead performances in that area. Story is he felt so uncomfortable doing it that he made sure John Kahn et al were there from then on. He did a great job of course. It is available on btetree and has 3 seeders now. Go for it.

Hi. I saw Jerry solo acoustic at a small theatre in Rochester NY in late 1982 or early 1983. It was cold. No Hunter, although he played the best R & C I've ever heard.

I believe that 05-05-1982 Oregon State Prison is just Garcia solo...the recording had it's levels too high, so there's a touch of saturation, but it is a nice recording nonetheless...I'll look around to see if it's floting out there...
